Fungi (Mold)

SLGI is accredited through AIHA-LAP, LLC EMLAP for the analysis of mold in air, tape, bulk and swab samples.

Microscopic Direct Examination analysis aids in the determination of whether the spores present are indicative of mold growth or simply originating from the exterior. If mold growth is present, the analysis includes identification of the spores present and a general evaluation of background debris. Using this analysis the laboratory can identify numerous types of mold such as Stachybotrys (Black Mold), Alternaria, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Trichoderma, Cladosporium and Memnoniella.

The analysis of air samples cassettes will identify the spores and give a final quantitative concentration of the spores present in the air (spores/m3). Tape lift, bulk, and swab sample analysis will identify the spores and give a semi-quantitative result (Low, Medium or High) for the spores present.

Bacteria (E-Coli and Total Coliform) SM 9223

SLGI also has NELAP accreditation through the state of Virginia for the analysis of bacteria (E-coli and Total coliform) in water. These bacteria that are usually found in the intestines and feces of people and animals are used as indicators since their presence indicates that disease-causing organisms may also be in the water. SLGI can analyze for the presence or absence of these bacteria and can also quantitate (MPN) the amount of the bacteria present.
